Hello and welcome! I’m Sarah Hooper, Children’s Independent Speech and Language Therapist, covering Thanet District and surrounding areas in East Kent. I offer assessment and therapy for toddlers, pre-schoolers and primary school aged children in a lovely clinic setting in Ramsgate, as well as offering advice and support for you as their parent/carer and anyone who works closely with your child.
Services
I can support your child with the following needs:
Speech sound difficulties (When a child’s sounds or words are hard to say clearly/correctly, and others may have trouble understanding them)
Language difficulties (When a child may not be talking; or only have a few words or phrases; or have difficulty learning new vocabulary or constructing sentences. They may also have problems understanding others.)
Social communication differences (When a child's interaction, attention, behaviour and/or sensory processing presents differently to other children their age)
Assessment
£200
A full assessment is around 1 to 1.5 hours, and includes:
Understanding your concerns for your child and what you'd like them to achieve
A full case history about your child

Assessment and observation of your child in clinic. This will often be through play, but I may use more formal assessment activities.
Advice and recommendations about how you can support your child's development at home and whether therapy would be beneficial.
Afterwards, I will provide a detailed written report on your child’s communication skills and needs, with recommendations for parents/carers and nursery/school staff.

Therapy
£70
Therapy sessions are around 40 minutes, and are often offered as a block of weekly sessions within a school term.

A therapy session includes:​
Direct therapy with your child in clinic, using toys, games, activities and resources based on their interests, where possible.
Direct coaching with you and/or specific recommendations to support progress between therapy sessions
Any additional therapy resources required
Therapy is based on an individualised plan with jointly agreed aims.
Visits to your child's nursery or school can be arranged up to once per term to share recommendations with education staff

About me
I'm passionate about enabling children to reach their communication potential, and supporting and empowering families to make all the difference in their child's life. I have 16 years experience in providing assessment and therapy for children with a wide range of needs. Many children I work with will have speech, language and communication as their main area of difficulty, but I'm also experienced in supporting children who have communication needs associated with conditions such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and others. I worked for 15 years in the NHS, and have been established as a Independent Therapist since 2022. I have a Speech and Language Therapy BSc(Hons) degree, I’m a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and am registered with the Health Care Professions Council. I am also a member of the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice and hold a current Enhanced DBS Certificate.

The Clinic
Assessment and therapy sessions are mainly held at a child-friendly clinic space at Marlowe Innovation Centre, Ramsgate

I am trained and experienced in providing therapy for children who are Gestalt Language Processors, who learn language through delayed echolalia ('scripts'/phrases often taken from songs, media and adult's expressions) and need support to develop language that is flexible and original. Please click the image to go to the Meaningful Speech website for further information.
